I encourage you to freely download and use these files. However, I ask that if you do use them, you let me know and share your contact information with me. I welcome your comments, observations, corrections - whatever. I have used versions of the files I am posting here in my teaching and my own practicing for many years. Many of the files have practicing suggestions that I hope you will consider. In some cases there are versions for viola as well.
One note about fingerings: Any fingerings that I add (when I do include them) are suggestions. There are, of course, many possibilities. As several of my teachers would say, “these are not engraved in stone.” In fact practicing alternative fingerings can often be constructive in building a flexible technique that can embrace more possibilities.
In time, I will add more files to this collection, so please come back and visit occasionally to see what is new.
Practicing scales, arpeggios, and other difficult passages in varied bowings and rhythms is effective.
3 Octave Scales and Arpeggios: Violin
The progression of arpeggios that I prefer for practice differs slightly from the tradition reflected in the (wonderful) Flesch System. I separate major and minor keys, allowing the addition of augmented arpeggios in positions that seem logical.
